the most important thing that i have learned this semester and that i am still continuing to learn as life goes on is responsibility. Now that i am an adult and in college there is no more mom to tell me to wake up, go to class, do your homework, and pay for my stuff. Nope! Reality sucks and so does the real world! That truth right there hit me hard, but im starting to figure it out just like every other successful person out there, its those people who dont figure this out that struggle and have a much harder time at life. Responsibility and work ethic is the key to success and I still struggling to figure that one out, but ill get it eventually

Prompt #14 Ultimate Truth

There is no such thing as the ultimate truth. Nothing is ever certain except maybe science. I mean it is hard to argue gravity…but i can never say anything is 100% truthful. Some people would say that religion is the ultimate truth but haha religion is a crutch and if people believe that religion is the ultimate truth and that makes them sleep better at night than im happy for them, but that just aint for me

The pledge of allegiance has a lot of worth maybe not in the actual words and how we say it, but the meaning has so much worth. Personally i love america i really do, i believe it is the greatest place on earth right now. Yes it has it’s flaws and negatives, but so does every great empire this world has ever had. The pledge of allegiance represents your loyalty to our country and just cause you don’t like the actual “Pledge of Allegiance” you should still like what it stands for. Plus i hate people that always complain about america and say how much it sucks. all i have to say to those people is shut up, stop complaining and actually go do something about in and if you don’t like it here then get the hell out and go annoy someone else.

This question is kinda dumb to me no offense. I feel most of African American culture comes from the south. Plus, you have got to rep where you’re from and the past means nothing to people now a days it’s all about the present, i am not condoling this idea, its just the way i think it is. Also, what’s done is done and to be honest how can you still be mad about slavery and racist when it happened long ago and way before i was born. I believe once people get over the past and quit using it as an excuse and look themselves in the mirror, that’s when our country and region can finally take a progressive step forward.

I have had to break the idea that everyone cares to some degree about another person. Its not that this has just dawned on me the past few weeks, but it is just hit home recently and it’s really depressing. People now a days are such assholes and they don’t give a shit about anyone else but them selves and it really pisses me off. People aren’t just selfish anymore, now they are selfish and inconsiderate of others to which just isn’t acceptable. I mean yes i have the mentality of look out for number one before anything else, but that doesn’t mean that i have forgotten to say please and thank you either. Oh and there are so many stereotypes that still prevail to day that i couldn’t begin to name them. I think that one of the most crippling ones is that black people are ignorant and can only be successful if they go into the entertainment industry and become a rapper or athlete. If they can’t do that than they must be a drug dealer and those are their only options, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I believe it is completely the medias fault too because they pay this idiots so much money to promote the type of negative behavior we see in our communities.

Prompt 9: Objectification

Objectification can always be used as a good thing we do it all the time, it’s just people are stupid and only think about it in a bad way like objectifying women. Whenever people use symbolism it is a form of objectification, such as a smiley face as a symbol of happiness. To objectify means to take something abstract and create it into something concrete. People in art do this all the time and they do it very well.

It’s getting around to that time of year again were we vote for a new president and so many people have strong opinions on how they feel about each candidate and wish to speak them. Georgia has always been known for being a very red and conservative state, as a matter a fact Barrack Obama doesn’t even run campaign ads in Georgia because we’re such a lost cause. All that being said there have always been lines that even the most ultraconservative people have always followed by since the being of our country, that being separation of church and state. Well done here in Georgia there is no such thing as boundaries for us.

Recently around the country it’s becoming a trend for pastors to speak their minds about the election as well. In Indiana, Rev. Ron Johnson, stopped short of endorsing McCain as the candidate to vote for, but did say that voting for Obama was morally wrong. Well of course down here in Georgia our redneck conservatives had to take it even further. In Barrow County, Georgia minister Jody Hice, pastor of the Bethleham First Baptist Church near Athens, went all the way in supporting John McCain. He didn’t stop there either. He went even further by telling his congregation that Barack Obama’s positions on abortion and gay rights were “in direct opposition to God’s truth as He has revealed it in the Scriptures” and that a vote for Obama would be evidence of “severe moral schizophrenia.”

This should be a concern for these preachers and if they continue with this campaigning from the pulpit it could turn in to major problems, mainly financially, for their churches. Churches have certain tax exemptions because they are places of worship. Well these pastors are making it very hard for the IRS to regulate if they are performing tax-exempt religious activities or taxable political ones. They claim that the bible requires them to take a more active role when talking about certain issues like abortion and same-sex marriages and that instructing their congregation to vote for their candidate who held their same political beliefs was not violating IRS regulations. Not only are they making it hard for the IRS, but also they are really pissing off other preachers, such as Rev. C. Joshua Villines of Decatur GA, who feel they are using the church as a shield to express their views.

Rev. Villines wrote an editorial to the AJC expressing his concern with other pastors’ actions around the country. He says that he hates how they make three of the major issues in the upcoming election, elimination of abortion, prevention of equal rights for gay and lesbian couples, and the teaching of intelligent design in schools religious. He says the socially and scientifically regressive arguments trumpeted by these pastors are not specifically or essentially “Christian” views.” He goes on to say that none of these views hold up any evidence in the Bible.

Politics is such a controversial topic. It can make even the most righteous and holly people want to cut the others throat. Gay marriage is just one of those major controversial topics that in my opinion will ever really get solved or make both sides happy. I just find it funny how no matter how hard you try and run from all the controversy its always going find its way around you whether through the TV, radio, around the cooler at work, at school, and now even at church.

Prompt 8: History

To be honest i freaking hate the term African American History and i especially hate the month of February because it is black history month. No I am not a racist in the slightest since, its just really stupid to me that people feel the need to separate things into categories like that. I feel that there is just American History, which should be a combination of all types of people, black, white, asian, hispanic, because we are all Americans here, this is our history not just black peoples or white peoples! it is all of ours. It is unfortunate that people feel the need to separate Black History from American history, which typically tends to be from the perspective of white people. I feel like until we combine the two and get rid of that stupid month in February that we will still be a very segragated country.

So the other day at work I was checking out two customers who happened to be a gay couple and over heard them talking about politics. They were talking about the upcoming debate and one of them was like “I’m not watching it I can’t even stand to look at McCain’s face! I don’t even know why you’re gonna vote for him your crazy.” Once I heard that my head started spinning, a gay republican? What? Can it really be true? But they hate gay people and won’t allow gay marriage. Then it occurred in my head that just because your gay that doesn’t mean you can’t be a republican and just because your republican doesn’t mean you hold all the same views. It’s very stereotypical to think that way, but that’s just what I’ve come to expect.

I’m sure many people think a lot like me in the sense that republicans are against gay marriage and democrats are all for it. Well most people including my self couldn’t be more wrong! Republican John McCain is opposed to gay marriage but I recently found out that Democrat Barrack Obama is also opposed to the idea of gay marriage. So that clearly shows that the stereotype that all Republicans are against gay marriage and Democrats are for. I now think about the issue in a little bit different angle.

According to ontheissues.org Barrack Obama feels that decisions about gay marriage “should be left to the states” and that he believes “marriage is between man and woman.” He does oppose gay marriage but, even though he feels that way “he has strongly supported civil unions.” Barrack Obama also opposes a constitutional ban of gay marriage according to cnn.com. Biden his running mate also opposes gay marriage but strongly supports civil unions, he too also voted against the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. This right here proves that Democrats aren’t always all the way to the left.

To further hit that point home John McCain also stated in 2007 according to ontheissues.org, “that gay marriage should be left to the states to decide.” He believes that “marriage is between one man and one women.” He also voted for the Defense of Marriage act, which defined marriage as between a man and a woman, but also opposed the federal marriage amendment. (cnn) He’s running mate Palin also strongly opposes gay marriage and according to cnn, “she supported an amendment to the Alaska state constitution that would have banned same-sex marriage.”

From what I understand is all of these candidates seem to have two things in common, they oppose same sex marriage and for the most part are against an al out constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriages. The only key difference is the democrats seem to agree and support civil unions, while the Republicans seem to oppose any sort of union between gays and lesbians.

From comparing all the candidates’ views on gay marriage you can see there is no one defined Democratic view and one Republican view. Each side agrees on some things and disagrees on others. One of the main reasons of this is the fact that gay marriage is such a hot and controversial issue, none of the candidates really want to mess around with it and seem to try and avoid it for the most part. It’s somewhat of a same and I hope they try to attack the issue head on and quit peeing around the bush.

Prompt 6: Elders

What makes someone an elder? What kinda question is that? An old person is an elder. To be more specific I believe an elder is anyone who is above the age of 60. To me age is the only true way to define an elder because you cant rate how wise someone is there is no scale for that, that is truly accurate or precise. When i think of elder i think of an old man with a walking stick, hunch back, glasses, dentures, and a bald head with a little bit of white hairs coming out of it. HAHA! That is my definition of elderly.
